The Mane Guide to Hair Care

The Hair Care Guide: Simplified

This one is going to be short, sweet and to the point. If you’re looking for hair care tips and tricks for glossy nourished hair this one is for you.

First things first, let’s bust one of the top hair care myths. Washing your hair every day with gentle shampoo is okay. In a word. Nope. Don’t do it, myth busted, this one is bad for you. If you have oily hair limit shampooing to every other day, ideally just twice a week. Now that’s sorted, let’s go over natural hair care tips and tricks.

Natural Hair Care Tips

Diet: It all starts with what you eat, the first thing you can do for glossy hair that is strong and lush is to make sure you’re eating right. Now that means drinking at least 8 ounces of water daily, as well as getting an adequate amount of protein. It’s funny how often this is overlooked, but having a healthy diet ensures your body gets the appropriate amount of macro and micronutrients that helps your hair grow and stay strong. A great source of protein can come from lentils, apart from just lean meats.

Shine and Volume

To give your hair the shine and bounce that you see in all those glamour magazines, a quick simple and effective solution is aloe vera.  All you need to do is use aloe vera as a conditioner or mix it into your conditioner and let it sit in your hair for about two minutes.

You can also use curds in the same manner to give your hair that extra bounce.

Coconut Oil for Your Hair

Some people may tend to stay away from oil in the hair, but this is why you shouldn’t be afraid. Using coconut oil in your hair can balance sebum production. This promotes healthy hair growth at the root. This is because the oil is rich in fatty acids and protein that is really good for your hair and skin. You’ll need about 30 - 40 minutes. Spread out into parts and apply coconut oil, gently massage into your scalp and outward to your tips. Leave this on for the above recommended time and then shower.

Lastly whenever you do shower, use lukewarm to warm water. Using hot water can scald the skin, damaging your roots.

Proper hair care is simple and easy to stay consistent. Make sure you start with your diet and the rest will just be maintenance to luscious, lovely locks.
