Smile Your Way through a Healthy Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be a wonderful time for a woman if you take good care. If you are planning a baby and can’t wait to take that pregnancy test, or you are already in your early pregnancy, there are some basics that go without saying. Smoking, drinking and exertion are all big no-nos. Take a look at some simple tips to help you have a healthy pregnancy.

Tips for Healthy Pregnancy

Here are some simple steps to follow for a smooth sailing pregnancy.

Exercise

Staying active will help you regulate your weight, improve blood circulation, improve your mood and give you a good night’s sleep.  You can try practicing Pilates, yoga or just an evening stroll should suffice. We recommend you consult your doctor before you start any exercise regime while you are pregnant, just to be sure. A lot of women tend to use a pregnancy exercise ball. It tends to aid relaxation and physical relief.

Do Your Research

You may not necessarily be a first-time mom, however, attending a pregnancy class can still be a great help. Try reading pregnancy help books for tips and tricks, this will help you learn more about child birth and infant care so you are ready when the baby arrives. You can also make a birth plan for yourself. A birth plan can include things like procedures you would like to avoid, preferable labor and delivery positions and so on.

Lifestyle Changes

You may have to alter your lifestyle a little when it comes to your daily household chores. Everyday jobs like cleaning bathrooms and kitchens become risky because you don’t want to end up slipping and having a fall. You should also avoid heavy lifting, climbing stools and ladders, continuous standing and using products with lots of chemicals.

Best Pregnancy Diet

Eggs: Eggs contain choline which is vital for your baby’s overall growth and helps to prevent neural tube defects.  Some types of eggs also contain omega-3 fats which help in vision and brain development. Eggs are also a good source of protein which is vital for your child’s growth.

Beans: Beans contain a lot of protein compared to most other vegetables. They are also a great source of fiber. During pregnancy, your gastrointestinal tract tends to slow down which can cause constipation. Good fiber intake can reduce such problems. Beans are also a good source of iron, calcium and zinc.

Whole Grains:  Whole grains contain fiber and are loaded with nutrients like vitamin E, selenium and phytonutrients. These are all essential for your baby’s overall development. You can try different grains like quinoa and oats.

Apart from these, some other foods which you should include in your diet while pregnant are walnuts, yogurt, green leafy veggies and lean meats without fat.
