 A yogic kriya for the stomach

The Agnisaar kriya prevents and cures stomach-related diseases. It is known as Agnisaar because it kindles and excites 13 types of agni in the body

The Agnisaar kriya is a part of Shatkarm. Do this, standing with your feet a foot apart. Lean forward and place hands on thighs above the knees and loosen stomach muscles. Inhale as much air as you can, then exhale it completely and push the lower portion of the stomach inside. Try to make the navel touch the spinal cord.
After that, release the stomach again and push it inside once more. Repeat this process several times and continue till you are able to hold your breath easily. After doing more rounds according to your capacity, bring the stomach back to normal position and stand, inhaling normally.


Agnisaar kriya involves exhaling air from the body so continue to pump the stomach till you can hold your breath comfortably. Initially, the stomach will move only 8-10 times; with practice, you may be able to move the stomach 20-30 times. Repeat 2-3 times.

Speed of breath:

Agnisaar kriya entails exhaling air,so do not inhale in the midst of this kriya. Stop the exercise if you feel out of breath. Start again when your breathing is normal.


The exercise should be done at normal pace and with ease, without forcefully stopping your breathing. Move your stomach only for as long as comfortable. Those suffering from acidity, ulcers, hernia, colitis and slipped disc are advised not to do this exercise. Avoid if you have had stomach surgery or suffer from hypertension or cardiac problems.


During the exercise, concentrate on the stomach. Due to the movement of the stomach, the supply of blood towards it increases and stomach-related ailments get cured. Your centre of dhyan is the Manipura chakra.


Agnisaar kriya puts pressure on the stomach that, in turn, has a positive impact on it, besides the intestines, liver, pancreas, gall bladder, kidney, adrenal gland, uterus and ovary in women, and prostate gland in men. It increases blood circulation to these areas. It eliminates foreign elements in the body and cures constipation ,gas, loss of appetite, urinary disorders, indigestion and addresses diabetes and obesity. It triggers insulin formation in the pancreas, reduces stomach flab, slows down ageing, increases the body's energy and rejuvenates it.
