Anemia very common ailment, wherein the
hemoglobin and RBC (red blood corpuscles) counts fall from
their normal levels. The normal label of hemoglobin in male is
13.5-15 and female is 11.5-12 per 100 ml of blood and there
are between 3.6 to 6.1 million red blood cells in a single
cubic millimeter of blood. In Ayurveda it is termed as`pandu’.
Symptoms

- Weakness, dizziness and quick exhaustion.
- Shortness of breath and palpitation on exertion.
- Pale looking skin and mucus membranes.
- Failing memory.
- A haggard look, lined with premature wrinkles.
- Occasional disturbing headache.
- Slow healing of wounds
- Eyes stripped off its shine, mirroring fatigue.
Root Causes
- Loss of blood from the body i.e. hemorrhaging by
injury, bleeding piles, bleeding from nose, mouth, lungs,
anus, genital tracts or excessive menstruation in case of
women.
- Inadequate supply of blood-forming ingredients in food
taken.
- Destruction of red blood corpuscles inside the body
after they are formed.
- Deficiency in the production of blood because of
defective functioning of liver and / or bone marrow.
- Lack of hydrochloric acid in stomach, needed for
digestion of iron and proteins.
- Presence of hookworms, pinworms, round worms and
tapeworms that feed on the supply of blood as well as on
vitamins.
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding.
- Excessive alcohol or drug use.
Herbs & minerals which is useful :
Amla (Emblica officinalis):
The
amla fruit (Embilica officinalis), also known as Indian
gooseberry, is one of the richest natural sources of
bioflavanoids and Vitamin C
Amla is very powerful anti-inflammatory herb. It enhances
production of Red Blood Cells, strengthens teeth, hair and
nails. It has also been been used to increase lean body mass
and help with weight management.
Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa) :

According to Ayurveda, Punarnava is bitter, cooling,
astringent to bowels, useful in anemia, blood impurities,
leucorrhoea, inflammations, heart diseases, asthma etc. The
leaves are useful in dyspepsia, tumours, spleen enlargement,
abdominal pains.
Mandur (Ferric Oxide):
It is prepared by purifying and calcinating iron rust. Mandura
is specially useful in anemia, amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhea,
menorrhagia, hepatic and splenic disorders. It is also used in
diarrhea, chronic bowel complaints, dyspepsia, intestinal
worms, nervous diseases, neuralgia of the 5th nerve due to
debility, kidney diseases, albuminuria, etc. It is a powerful
hematinic and tonic and is valuable in the treatment of
hemolytic jaundice and microcytic anemia.
Spirulina :
Spirulina
is a type of blue-green algae found in most lakes and ponds.
Spirulina is considered a complete protein because well over
half of it consists of amino acids -- the building blocks of
protein. It is also a rich source of other nutrients including
B complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin E, carotenoids,
manganese, zinc, copper, iron, selenium, and gamma linolenic
acid (an essential fatty acid). Spirulina promotes
hematopoiesis (formation and development of red blood cells).
This is thought to be due to the high levels of iron present
in this food supplement.
Diet :
Go for a well-balanced diet
rich in iron, sesame seeds, almonds, dairy products, animal
protein, vegetables as beet, lettuce, spinach, soyabean,
radish, carrots, tomatoes and fresh fruits as banana, black
berries, strawberries, apple, amla, plum.
Life Style:
Enjoy sun-bathing as the
sunlight stimulates the production of red blood cells.
