Looking after your teeth is very
important. If teeth are cleaned properly it prevents the
formation of plague around the gums of teeth. Plague
forms easily after food is eaten, and bacteria thrive in
it. This starts decay in tooth enamel and encourages
inflammation of the gums. Gum diseases are as
destructive as tooth decay. The most important thing is
to watch your diet. Sugar is the main cause of food
decay. Therefore it is essential to reduce the intake of
sweets, jams, cakes, biscuits, sweet drinks and
chocolate

Some tips to help keep teeth sparkling clean and
prevent tooth decay.
-
Make sure your teeth are kept
scrupulously clean with regular brushing. It is
important to learn how to brush properly. Move the
brush from the gum to the biting edge, working the
bristles between the teeth to dislodge food
particles.
-
Besides the teeth, the gum should
also be cleaned. Massage them in the same stroke as
brushing your teeth and give them an occasional
extra massage, rubbing them gently in circular
movement with a little toothpaste on your finger.
Brush teeth systematically around the front and then
the inside followed by a sawing movement across the
tops of the teeth.
-
Use dental floss to remove
particles stuck between the teeth.
-
Use a mouthwash to make sure that
your breath is fresh. Put a few drops in warm water
and rinse your mouth after you clean your teeth in
the morning.
-
Brush your teeth after every meal
if possible. If not, then night and morning.
-
If you can't brush your teeth
after a meal, try eating an apple instead.
-
Use a toothpaste containing
fluoride which helps fight tooth decay.
-
Visit the dentist regularly and
this will help keep your teeth healthy.
Besides the above
mentioned tips, there are some homemade beauty aids that
can help keep teeth sparkling clean. These recipes are
simple and inexpensive.

For sparkling teeth, rub them
once or twice a week with a dried bay leaf (Tej
Patta)

after brushing as this would help remove the plaque
and food debris that get stuck between your teeth
and gum line.
-
A good toothbrush is as important
as the toothpaste. But care should be taken in
choosing the shape and brand of toothbrush. A good
one should have small angled head and soft to medium
rounded bristles. This is important as it helps
clean all those hidden areas of your teeth.
-
Remember to replace your brush
before it gets de-shaped. It may otherwise injure
your gum by the scratches made during brushing.
Ideally a brush should be changed every three
months.
-

breathe through your nose as breathing through mouth
dries up the protective saliva causing teeth and gum
problems.
-
Massaging your gum with your
fingertips is good for your teeth as this boosts
blood circulation.
-
If your teeth have stains, you
can remove them by rubbing strawberries or putting
three tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda with two
tablespoons of salt. Also ashes of burnt bread,
charcoal, burnt rosemary, honey, salt and eye-meal
remove the stains on teeth.
-
You should remember to wash your
teeth after taking any food so that neither stains
nor food sedimentation can occur.
-
Also if you have bad breath
problems, use breath freshening products and
mouthwashes to make you smell fresher.
-
To use as mouthwash take ¼ cup
of vinegar, ½ cup wine, ½ cup honey, and 1
teaspoon of powdered cloves and boil them. This
works as an effective mouthwash.
-
Lastly, to give your teeth some
sparkling effect, mix two teaspoons of sea salt and
two teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide in a large glass
of warm water. Then wash your mouth.
