Forgiveness is divine and promotes good health

There is a misconception in the minds of people that a tit-for-tat approach is the real sign of strength. We admire those who advocate revenge and take an eye for an eye. Likewise, we tend to look down upon those who advise us to forgive and move on magnanimously. In the process we forget what Mahatma Gandhi once said, ďAn eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.Ē

He also said, ďThe weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.Ē You donít need proof for that.

Forgiveness is a divine quality; itís in Godís nature. The world operates through Gods forgiveness not his justice. If it was not for Godís forgiveness, we would be in perpetual suffering.

However, to forgive is difficultóyou have to drop your pride, ego and anger. You have to give up your need to be right, and accept your mistakes.

Forgiveness has two facets to it; one is to be forgiving of othersí mistakes and wrongdoing and the other is to be humble and ask for forgiveness. The double path of being forgiving to others and asking for forgiveness fills a manís life with Godís mercy.

Repentance is the path to being forgiven. Repentance to be accepted must be sincere and must stem from the bottom of oneís heart. But true repentance is tough. Is it easy to say sorry to someone with whom you have lost your temper? Is it easy to ask for forgiveness from someone you have badmouthed? It is better then, to refrain from hurting others. Then, there is no need for repentance.

Do not be ashamed of admitting your mistakes. Forgiveness is divine: adopt it and be showered by divine blessings.

If you learn to forgive and to ask for forgiveness, no more will your mind be clouded with the misery of bad or broken relationships and you will enjoy peace, bliss and good health.
