Ringworm
Ringworm is a fungus infection
of the scalp or skin. Ringworm on the scalp may leave a
flaky patch of baldness. In the skin ringworm causes a
reddish, ring like rash that may itch or burn. The area may
be dry and scaly or it may be moist or crusted. The same
fungi that infect humans can also infect animals such as
dogs and cats and infections may be acquired from pets as
well as from infected children .
Ringworm is spread by direct contact with a person or animal
infected with the fungus. It can also be spread indirectly
through contact with articles (such as combs or clothing) or
surfaces which have been contaminated with the fungus. The
fungus is no longer present when the lesion starts to
shrink.
Root
causes:
Ringworm infection occurs in the scalp, the body, the feet,
and the nails. Ringworm of the scalp is common among
children because of the lack of protective fatty acids in
their scalp. The disease spread on the skin and extends
deeper into the hair roots, and also up along the hair. The
affected hair becomes dull and breaks off near its root.
This leaves bald spots on the scalp .the patches of ringworm
on the body are usually round or oval, with raised pink and
scaly rings which show a clean space in the center. The
itching in the infected parts of the body .if it is not
treated for a longtime, the infection becomes chronic and is
then difficult to get rid of.
Symptoms:
Ringworm is passed from an infected person to a healthy
person by contact. it can also spread by the use of articles
such as the towel of an infected person.
